Okay, so first off…. I know not everything in life is a competition and this isn’t the “best” saying…. but it’s something we say in our house a lot, so that’s what I chose! You can obviously write anything you want! 😉 And second: I know Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday created to make people buy each other things to show their love. BUT – the way I want to teach our kids about Valentines Day, is just a celebration of love and kindness and an extra day to show those we care about how special they are to us! Plus, I just love a good holiday craft….. so 🤷🏼♀️. 😘
I snagged these canvas’ at Hobby Lobby on recommendation of @amylouhawthorne because they are super budget friendly! I bought a few 2-packs before Christmas and we haven’t used them up yet! Painting on canvas gives it a little more of a home-decor-feel and makes it last a little longer than plain paper! Here’s an Amazon option if you’d prefer to have it delivered. 😘
We all know I love to craft, but I also hate when I buy all the supplies and then realize I spent more than if I had just bought the sign. SO – I made the heart stamps out of toilet paper rolls and sponges…. but get creative!! What do you have around the house??! For the toilet paper rolls, I just pressed a pencil along the edge to fold it in and make it heart-shaped, and then wrapped an elastic band around it to keep it that way. Edited to add: my mom mentioned you can clip a clothespin to the back of the sponges to give them a little handle…. which is genius because my kids hate getting their hands dirty. 😂🤣🙌🏻
I used the kid’s play letters to trace our words onto construction paper and cut out the letters with a razor. They don’t have to be perfect because they are using stamps, so it won’t be a solid line anyway! Then I cut the paper down so that all I had left was a small rectangle with the words, and taped it on the canvas!!
I set up white, red, and pink paint, which we already had. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you already know to use disposable supplies when painting so that I can do a quick cleanup before idle hands make a mess! Also, By only putting out a few colors, I can let the kids have free reign of their creation without ending up with muddy brown canvas’. 🤣😂
Each child made their own design but I made sure to remind them to stamp a lot over the words so that when I peeled of the paper you would be able to read what they say!!
That’s it! Peel of your construction paper and let it dry!!
Next I’m going to work on a homemade Garland of Hearts, and we will use both projects to decorate our play kitchen for Valentines Day!
