Construction Zone!!

Mason really likes to have his parties at our house… which is super cute minus the planning and cleanup lol. This year, we are celebrating Mason and Taylor’s birthday party together, and I’m really having trouble nailing a theme. Mason keeps saying “Lego Police”, and I’m certainly not handing out handcuffs to a bunch of 5 year olds, so LEGO it is! BUT, I’m struggling with making that theme work for Taylor, too…because you know, she totally cares 😉

ANYWAY…Since it’s in like two weeks, I figured I better procrastinate by throwing together a blog post about Mason’s party last year, which I was pretty darn proud of!

Mason has always been REALLY into trucks. Last year was his first birthday that he really had his own friends to invite since he was in preschool, so I was pretty excited to plan, not gonna lie. I tried to emulate sensory bins since I know they use them at school. But the real hit of the day was the wrecking ball!! Also Рa roll of caution tape and some plastic construction hats pretty much sealed the deal on d̩cor! (I filled up some of the hats with snacks, too!)

I bought a bag of river rocks at Home Depot for one of the sensory bins, and labeled it the “Rock Quarry”, and wrote letters on some of the rocks with a white chalk sharpie. The second sensory bin was our sandbox, which happens to have an excavator part to it! I totally recommend this Fisher Price Sandbox if you have a construction-loving kid, and it worked out perfectly with the theme. The third sensory bin was full of water and kid-safe soap, and I grabbed a bag of construction-themed rubber duckies from Amazon to float around, making it the “Truck Wash Station”. Mason picked out a bunch of his trucks that he was fine with friends playin with in these activities, and I used a couple pieces of scrap wood for the garage to make little bridges between the bins.

The kids were obsessed with this wrecking ball activity and it was SO easy to set up! I saved up boxes and wrapped them in grey paper to look like concrete blocks, and hung a ball from the tree so they could build a tower and knock it down! (Inspo from Pinterest but I switched it up a little) I used a soccer ball trainer (like the ones you use to learn to juggle the ball) to hold the ball in and then tied it around a branch. (I think I might repeat this again this year with colorful boxes to fit the LEGO theme, because it was such a hit!)

Logan also had a construction birthday party one year and Russ and I made a ridiculous cake… (I need to find a picture of it, it was soooo cool! But also like 3 layers and fondant and stuff, and TBH baking isn’t really my jam). BUT – this cake was really easy, I just crushed Oreos for around the outside and bought a cheap package of trucks for decorations. I had some of the Oreos inside the dump truck, and the excavator digging into the cake. Mason loved it! I also found the cute construction cone candles on Amazon. I wish I could find a picture of the goodie bags, which I also found on Amazon. They were super cute so I’m linking them here.

If you have a Construction loving kiddo I hope this gave you some inspiration! And if you have any LEGO themed party ideas, send them my way!!
